A Winter's Respite Read-a-Thon--Sign Up Here! #WintersRespite

Well, Christmas is officially over and I'm looking forward to the new year and some Winter's respite and recovery. I also quit my overly demanding job and I'm starting a new work-at-home job that I'm hoping will be less consuming of my valuable family and reading time. We shall see. I'm thinking it will be. Staying positive. Hope you all had a blessed Christmas and wishing you much health and prosperity in the New Year!

This is the official sign up for A Winter's Respite Read-a-Thon! Dates are January 18 - 24, starting at 12:00am Monday and ending at 11:59pm on Sunday. Times are central standard time so adjust your times accordingly. Of course, like most read-a-thons, the books read must be novels or novellas, adult or young adult are fine, and you can read children's books too (as long as you do read some novels too). Note: Non-Fiction is also okay! You DO NOT have to participate the entire week. Join in when you can, start in the middle, end early...whatever works best for your schedule. As with all of my read-a-thons, it will be a week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.

Guidelines for the read-a-thon can be found HERE or you can access in the tab at the top of the blog. Any information you need about the read-a-thon can be found there. Please do be sure to check the guidelines to make sure you're following along correctly. There are specific rules regarding signing up and wrapping up, especially in regards to the giveaway. Also, regarding the giveaway, I'll be again adding a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form which will be located on the prize page.

I will not be hosting any mini-challenges. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge or giveaway, you are more than welcome. I am also looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! (Contact me using the contact form above).

Our hashtag is #WintersRespite Also, don't forget about our Facebook group. You can access via the tab at the top of the blog.

Sign up in the linky below. You do not have to do a post now, unless you want to help spread the word (much appreciated). If you don't have a blog, use Facebook, Twitter or Goodreads. Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon - Wrap Up #CSReadathon

Finally...a wrap up post. I'm so sorry for being MIA for the read-a-thon this year. As some of you have seen in the Facebook group, I haven't been having a good go of it lately. Work and real life problems have been especially nasty and while I'm still trying to stay positive and carry on, as I always do, I'm utterly exhausted in the process. Hoping that I can pick myself up, dust myself off, and really start enjoying this holiday season.

I hope you all enjoyed the read-a-thon and that it got you into the spirit. If you want to continue on with your Christmas reading this season and you're up for a challenge, why not sign up for my Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge at my Christmas blog (if you haven't already)? Would love to have you! It lasts through January 6.

Add your wrap-up post to the linky by Friday, December 4 at 11:59pm CST to be eligible for the prizes. Be sure that you entered via the form on the Midweek Check-In post.

Thanks for participating! I hope you will join me for the Winter's Respite Read-a-Thon, coming January 18 - 24. Button is coming soon.

Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon - Mid-Week Check-in (a bit late!) #CSReadathon

Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! I'm a day late with this check-in because of the illustrious holiday, but it was such a wonderful holiday this year and I didn't work (Yay!) so it was extra special for me. I haven't had any time to read, as work has been a mess so I may have to be content to just host this time (which I love doing and wouldn't change) and hope to get some Christmas reading in for the reading challenge.

How is your reading going? I hope you're enjoying it. Feel free to update me in the comments or leave a link to an update post.

Giveaways
I was very generously offered two eBook copies of the Christmas horror novella, Twelfth Night Krampus from Erin at Oh, For the Hook of a Book. Although this is horror, it is based on an East European legend (see below).

Author Cat Cavendish praises...
"An adult fairytale well told in the best Grimm tradition. As with the Dark Servant, the author draws on the old German/Austrian/East European traditions of the Santa Claus’s demon helper. In the folk tales, Krampus punishes naughty children. Manochio keeps faith with the tradition but develops it and presents us with a new classic tale for Christmas. Here the equally bloody and demonic Frau Perchta – also hellbent on punishing those who have transgressed in her eyes – finds herself directly competing against Krampus. This is a macabre, dark tale with a timeless quality about it. An atmospheric landscape, complete with Bavarian castle; characters that could have stepped out from your worst nightmares. Loved this. It kept me thoroughly and enjoyably entertained in a dark, scary way. "

Twelfth Krampus Night, Summary
Dark servants clash!

Medieval maiden Beate, who’s grieving over the mysterious evisceration of her best friend, Gisela, must escape a Bavarian castle under siege by sadistic creatures.

Standing in her way—beyond towering walls and crossbow-toting guards—are Saint Nicholas’s demonic helper, Krampus, and Frau Perchta, a belly-slitting hag who prowls the countryside during First Night festivities to punish naughty teens. Beate wants out. Krampus and Frau Perchta want in, determined to breach the castle to snag their prey. Beate has no idea why these monsters want her, but she must use her wits to save herself from horrors both human and inhuman—lest she wind up like Gisela.

#FrightFall Read-a-Thon: Mid-Week Check-In

Hi everyone! I am sadly behind on visiting blogs and I apologize. My week has been a mess. My reading is also suffering, of course.

So, we are at mid-week. Where did the time go!? Our Facebook group has really been a success and I've been checking in there often, but I need to also check-in on Twitter. I hope everyone is getting some good (scary) reading in.

If you are doing daily updates on your blog, or have done a mid-week update post, feel free to leave your link in the comments...or just let me know how things are going. I promise I plan to make the rounds today/tonight.

Also, Erin at Oh, For the Hook of a Book will be adding a giveaway to her blog on Friday so be sure to stop by. I'll share the official link on Twitter and in the Facebook group (and on the prize page) when it goes live officially.

Happy reading!

1  2 3 4 5 eBook sets of the Miss Taken series, Books 1 and 2 by Cleo Scornavacca and 1  3 4 5 bookmark sets  ( 1  3 4  5 winners - International)

Miss Taken
Love........................The Ultimate Loss of Control

Rain and Raven Medici are identical twins. Although they come from a loving close-knit family their childhoods couldn’t have been more different. Raven went to school and was exposed freely to the outside world. Rain on the other hand was born with a blood disorder and denied many normal childhood experiences.

Once grown, Raven becomes a lawyer at their dad’s firm Kane & Medici in NYC. Rain along with her only childhood friend Tommy Conte, builds a very successful business as professional photographers. Traveling between Europe and Manhattan, and enjoying a world that was kept from her, Rain vows never to be controlled again.

Dominick Kane is a product of his upbringing. He’s powerful, self-assured and knows he can achieve anything he desires. Nothing gets in his way. There is only one thing he has ever failed at. A relationship with his father Vincent Kane. Upon his father’s death, Dominick vows revenge. The events he sets in motion put him on a collision course he himself will be unable to control.

In a bizarre twist of fate, Dominick kidnaps Raven as part of his plan for revenge. Only to discover afterward, he has taken Rain by mistake. Rain knows she can never survive being confined again. So she strikes a bargain with the devil and agrees to help Dominick get back what he feels rightly belongs to him. His father’s share of Kane & Medici.

Dominick decides to use the strong attraction growing between Rain and himself to control her in every way imaginable. Too bad no one ever taught Dominick you can’t control the heart. Nothing could have prepared him for the effect Rain would have on his.

Will this plan of revenge turn into unconditional love? Or will Dominick and Rain’s need for control ultimately destroy them and any possible chance for a real future together…………...

Identity
People aren’t always who you believe them to be.
Dominick Kane and Rain Medici started their relationship with one another in the most unconventional way.

He kidnapped her.

With the kidnapping now behind them, life returns to normal, right?

Not a chance.

The push, the pull and their fights for control that we’ve come to love about Dominick and Rain still exist. And so does their passion.

People aren’t who you think they are. Familiar faces are not so familiar. The past and the present collide, opening up all of those old wounds and struggles once again.

Now, everything you thought you knew, gets blown out of the water.

Can Dominick and Rain finally heal what’s broken? Or will new discoveries push them even further apart.

Will love win out and bring them back together? Or will ghosts of the past ultimately destroy their love once and for all...

About the author
As far back as I can remember, I've loved books. I love reading them and finally, I've admitted to myself that I love to write them.

Since the day I started to write Rain and Dominick's story, I've never looked back, nor do I regret one single moment of it.

When I write, much of the time the story plays in my head as a movie and sometimes even includes background music. We can all use a little background music.

I try to add elements of things I love. And share them with the readers. I'll continue to create characters and stories that you can laugh, cry, love, hate and even become slightly crazy about.

Let's face it, we can all use some crazy every now and then.

(Winners - Suzanne, Carol)
Drawn by Chris Ledbetter (1 2 signed print copies - U.S. only)
Caught between the sweltering fall landscape of Wilmington, NC beaches and southern illusions and expectations, all sixteen year-old Cameron Shade thinks about is art. That, and for Farrah Spangled to view him as more than just a friend. Cameron longs to win her heart through art.

After several warm interactions with Farrah, including painting together at the beach, Cameron discovers just how complex Farrah’s life is with her boyfriend and her family. Following a tense run-in with Farrah’s father, she forbids Cameron to ever speak to her again, but Cameron’s convinced there’s more behind the request.

To impress Farrah with a last-ditch effort, Cameron sketches her portrait. But the sketchbook he uses hides a dark secret. Farrah’s now in grave danger because the sketch he drew of her siphons her real-life’s soul into the sketchbook. Cameron now has twenty days to extract Farrah. To save her, he must draw himself into the book.

If he fails… they both die.

"Ledbetter successfully makes his fantastic premise very believable... Farrah is a good foil for Cameron, and Ledbetter does a fine job developing their friendship and romantic connection... Because this is not a graphic novel, descriptions are important, and Ledbetter’s finely detailed descriptions serve as effective illustrations for Cameron’s journey.
Inventive, fast-paced fantasy with imaginative settings and engaging characters." ~ Kirkus Reviews

#FrightFall Read-a-Thon - Starting Post

It's officially October and FrightFall is here! Are you ready? Remember, the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart). The rest of the week? Keep reading scary if you want, or read whichever genre you choose.

I have some awesome prizes lined up from some very generous authors (and a blogger)...and me! I'll try to have the prize page posted by the end of the day Tuesday. There will be a tab at the top of the blog.

Don't forget that you can participate even if you don't have a blog. Just link up with your Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (and just post your updates from whichever venue you choose) AND NOW you can update in our new Facebook group! If you have any questions about updates, etc., feel free to ask. I'll have a midweek update post up on Thursday so be sure to stop by and leave progress, or a link, in the comments.

If you have any questions about how things work, check out the guidelines tab above or the sign up post, or you can always leave me a comment. The linky below is the same one as the sign up linky. If you do a starting line/goal post, just add your link again, but be sure to put "goal post" beside your name, i.e. Michelle/True Book Addict (goal post). Note: If you're just signing up, you can do it here on this post. It's the same linky. Sign-ups are open through Friday, October 9 at 11:59pm CST.

We're not going to do any Twitter chats, but we can have some impromptu chats on Twitter or in the Facebook group. I will be monitoring both periodically throughout the week. Twitter hashtag is #FrightFall

That's it! Let's get this party started. Have fun and happy FrightFall reading!

#FrightFall Read-a-Thon - Sign Up Here!

Fall is here (almost) and you know what that means! FrightFall is just around the corner. It's only two weeks away! Official dates are October 5 - 11. I hope you're ready to get your scary on! Also, regarding the giveaway, I'm adding something new to facilitate my contacting of the winners each time. I will add a Google form to capture names and email addresses so if you're interested in winning a prize (and you've met the sign up and wrap up criteria), I will ask you to fill in that form.

Just remember...the one main "rule" of FrightFall is that you must read ONE scary book (which can be a thriller, mystery, Gothic novel, or similar for those who are faint of heart).

Our Twitter hashtag is #FrightFall. AND I have big news! We now have a Facebook group! So, I'm thinking we will do away with Twitter chats and just interact periodically on Twitter and Facebook. I thought the group was a good idea for interaction, news and events announcement, plus anyone who doesn't have a blog can post their updates in the group. The new Facebook group is here.

Sign up in the linky below. Be sure to grab the button at the top of this post (there's also a grab code below the button in the sidebar).
I am looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! Contact me via the contact form link just below the header.

Thanks for signing up!

Set of 3 Sandra Byrd historical novels (paperback - U.S. only - One winner)  (Winner - Jenna)

To Die For: A Novel of Anne Boleyn
Starred Review "Told through the eyes of Anne Boleyn’s best friend, Meg Wyatt, this stunning novel by French Twist series author Byrd re-examines Boleyn’s life from her beginnings to her rise and eventual fall in the Tudor court. Meg has her own tale of young love and pride, having turned her back on her childhood love when he accepted a religious calling. She travels with Anne to court and finds her life intimately tied to Anne’s changing fortunes. Byrd’s novel adds a depth to the character of Anne Boleyn that is often missing in other novels, and she brings the history to life in exquisite detail. Readers might indeed find themselves sympathizing with the young queen. Highly recommended for fans of Philippa Gregory." —Library Journal

The Secret Keeper: A Novel of Kateryn Parr
"A young woman with the gift of prophecy becomes entangled in Henry VIII’s court in this engaging novel. [. . .] Byrd (To Die For) crafts a well-researched historical novel that engrosses readers in Juliana’s world and the juicy details of the Tudor court. [. . .] Anglophiles and history buffs alike will surely enjoy this bird’s-eye view into royal politics, love, and scandal." —Publishers Weekly

Roses Have Thorns: A Novel of Elizabeth I
"The book spans nearly 24 years, and readers will be very caught up as the story unfolds and they see some of the familiar players of Elizabeth’s court through the eyes of a gentle and affectionate friend to the Queen. With this well written novel, rich in history and everyday court life during the Elizabethan period, I can now count Sandra Byrd as one of my favorite writers of historical fiction." —Historical Novel Society

Greenshift by Heidi Ruby Miller (1 print copy - International)
GREENSHIFT is the first book in a new series set within the world of Ambasadora. This space thriller contains an ensemble cast and elements of futuristic romance, military science fiction, a galactic empire, cyberpunk, and space opera.
In this caste-ruled society, celebrity, beauty, and power mean everything and multiple partners are the norm. Love and jealousy are considered emotional fallacies, nothing more than fleeting moods and sentiments biased by hormones. But sometimes people just fall in love...and that can be deadly.

Mari's rare eye color makes her a pariah within Upper Caste society, which is why she prefers plants to people...except David, the former Armadan captain who shuttles scientists around on a refurbished pleasure cruiser.

But someone else is interested in Mari and her distinctive look--an obsessed psychopath who tortures and murders women for pleasure.

When the killer chooses Mari as his next victim, the soldier inside David comes alive, but it is Mari who must fight for her own life and prove she isn't as fragile as the flowers she nurtures.

"It’s a sweet and fulfilling journey as Miller fleshes out the characters’ backgrounds and motives, threading the branches of circumstance and desire that blossom into love. David and Mari’s strong personalities burn through the pages and it’s easy to see their relationship as believable, passionate, and enduring."-K. Ceres Wright, Amazing Stories reviewer

"The action and romance are seamlessly woven together, transporting us and leaving us petulant for more when the story is over."
-from the foreword by Dana Marton, New York Times best selling author of THE THIRD SCROLL

"I love sci-fi romance and am always on the lookout for a new author. This was a great introduction to a new world with characters that were memorable and believable."

"Miller's characters blaze with life and lust and depth, and her world is a dichotomy of the glamorously sensual and the brutally dangerous."
-Mary SanGiovanni, Bram Stoker nominated author of THE HOLLOWER trilogy

"...I loved the world building in this, the attention to detail and the portrayal of the characters. Heidi has a talent for making them so real. The writing is flawless and descriptive, and all the premises and reactions believable and consistent. The bad guys completely gave me the creeps..."
